About the Author
When Jerry graduated from Thayer High School in 1974,
he joined the United States Air Force and served his country for four
years. He was stationed in San Antonio, Texas, at Kelly Air Force Base
and worked in communications. After receiving his Honorable Discharge
in 1978, he went to college at Arkansas State University (ASU) and
earned his bachelors degree in 1982. Then, he worked for the United
States Postal Service in Jonesboro, Arkansas, for the next six years.
In 1988, Jerry felt like he
could make a difference in education and decided to begin his teaching
career. He taught in the classroom for three years until he earned his
administration degree at ASU. Then, he became a building level
administrator and served as a principal for seven years before becoming
a school superintendent. He has been a superintendent of schools for
the past eight years.
Jerry is currently the
superintendent of the Puxico R-VIII School District and loves working
there. He does his best to make decisions based on what is best for
children because they are the future leaders of our country. The school
has earned the “Distinction in Performance Award” for the past two
years.
Jerry is married to Sharon and
has four children. Sharon is a domestic engineer and takes care of the
home. Two children, Joe and Kim, still live at home and attend the
Puxico R-VIII School. Joe is in the eighth grade and Kimberly is in
fifth grade. They both do well academically and enjoy being with their
friends. His two older sons live in Pocahontas, Arkansas. His oldest
son, James, is a police officer and intends to make a career in law
enforcement. Jarrod attends Arkansas State University and hopes to
finish college next year.
