When Jerry graduated from Thayer High School in 1974, he joined the United States Air Force and served his country for four years.  He was stationed in San Antonio, Texas, at Kelly Air Force Base and worked in communications.  After receiving his Honorable Discharge in 1978, he went to college at Arkansas State University (ASU) and earned his bachelors degree in 1982.  Then, he worked for the United States Postal Service in Jonesboro, Arkansas, for the next six years.

In 1988, Jerry felt like he could make a difference in education and decided to begin his teaching career.  He taught in the classroom for three years until he earned his administration degree at ASU.  Then, he became a building level administrator and served as a principal for seven years before becoming a school superintendent.  He has been a superintendent of schools for the past eight years.

Jerry is currently the superintendent of the Puxico R-VIII School District and loves working there.  He does his best to make decisions based on what is best for children because they are the future leaders of our country.  The school has earned the “Distinction in Performance Award” for the past two years.

Jerry is married to Sharon and has four children.  Sharon is a domestic engineer and takes care of the home.  Two children, Joe and Kim, still live at home and attend the Puxico R-VIII School.  Joe is in the eighth grade and Kimberly is in fifth grade.  They both do well academically and enjoy being with their friends.  His two older sons live in Pocahontas, Arkansas.  His oldest son, James, is a police officer and intends to make a career in law enforcement.  Jarrod attends Arkansas State University and hopes to finish college next year.
